Technology is one of the ‘great walls’ in Guatemala. All that is taught in the schools is over-priced Microsoft-based solutions. People in our Partner Communities do not have the budget for MS Office and all that other over-priced nonsense. Partner Communities are lacking adequate/affordable Internet connectivity. Technology is a viable career path to escape the poverty here in Guatemala.
We’re happy to assist and we hope you are too :) We prefer to spread the adoption of open-source solutions within our Partner Communities. Solutions not tied to typical capitalist business/pricing models. So Linux instead of Apple/MS, Gimp instead of Photoshop, WordPress instead of DNN… you get the idea :) All that said, if you want to work with Windows – that’s fine with us. We need all the Good Tech volunteer project help we can get!
This volunteer project is about giving interested kids in our Partner Communities the tools they need to know and use tech, learn tech and spread good tech to their friends and families. You’ll mentor a kid or three in your assigned Partner Community and work with them one-on-one, helping them in the area that they are interested. Give a good kid or three a good start down the road of good tech.
If your Spanish is not up to the task of teaching, we have lots of other tech tasks: work on our website, assist with our online marketing, Partner Community computer labs full of workstations that need cleaning and optimization, personal computers that need cleaning and optimization, wireless routers waiting for a Partner Community mesh network and lots more.
