Good Gardens volunteer project

Good Gardens volunteer projectWe work with local families to plant organic gardens from GMO-free seeds. We’ve planted hundreds of gardens in our Partner Communities. You’ll work with local family and help them with their own organic veggies.

The organic gardening practices here in Guatemala are generations old, using mixtures of locally available plants to create natural insecticides – pretty cool stuff – pretty effective too. We just planted ~5 acres corn ans squash. The entire crop will be completely organic and treated weekly with ‘organic bug discouragement spray’. Perhaps, you’d like to learn that recipe :)

Produce is ~2X more expensive in Peten than in any other part of Guatemala. Hard to buy expensive veggies when you’re a poor Guatemalan. We’re happy to help :)

We use homemade organic fertilizers and organic pesticides. All natural ingredients. Good stuff and lots of love goes into every organic garden.

Most of the produce is shipped up here from Guatemala City – a very long way from here – not what we’d call locally-sourced. There’s nothing more tasty and nutritious than fresh-picked veggies :)

The poor of rural Guatemala need veggies in their diet and we’re here to help with GMO-happy seeds, volunteers ready to lend a hand and an intercultural exchange that’s as good for volunteers as for our participating Partner Community families.
