San Benito one the largest and most populated towns in Peten. San Benito’s beach is called Pedregal – at least a few junk food/drink vendors are on the beach – three submerged piers that are fun to play / chill on.
Best bakery in Peten, la Bendicione is smack in the middle. Great collection of local restaurants. Want an authentic Petenero experience grab some chicken, pig or beef at Ranchon Itza, two locations a few block apart – if one is closed the other is usually open.
CONAP has a regional office in San Benito where they store a huge amount of the bootleg jungle trees they confiscate each year – the pile of Maya hardwoods get higher and higher every year, as it sits there and rots – unfortunately, no one can think of a sustainable way to utilize all this wood – any ideas?
