What’s an ecotour? Travel to areas of cultural, ecological, historical and/or natural interest accompanied and under the guidance of a local community member with the intention of observing the natural resources of the community’s local natural area. Ecotours minimize their impact on the surrounding environment by maximizing their approach to sustainability, reducing carbon, educating travelers on the importance of living in harmony with nature. Ecotour guides give travelers the opportunity to enjoy travel in a more sustainable manner by empowering local communities to use existing community and natural resources – not building more hotels, buying more vehicles and creating more infrastructure that does little to support the local community other than provide low-paying jobs and put additional strain on already fragile ecosystems.
